Dr. Kuniko Satonobu Spirig, living in Geneva Switzerland works as an art historian, film maker and journalist.
Born in Japan, Kuniko Satonobu Spirig obtained a master’s degree in art history at the University of Kobe, Japan. In 1984, she worked at the Museum of Modern Art Shiga as independent curator for the exhibition «Environment and Sculpture – Lake Biwa Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition», editing the catalog and writing essays on Alice Aycock and David Nash. Afterwards she went to Paris to obtain her doctorate degree in art on a woman artist Sonia Delaunay at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University in 1992: the title of the thesis is «Circle, Triangle, Square – Analysis of the elementary forms and processes in the abstract work of Sonia Delaunay». In 1992, she worked temporarily as assistant to the director of the Kunstmuseum Bern for the exhibition «Sonia & Robert Delaunay» and wrote an essay about Sonia for the exhibition catalog. While writing her doctoral thesis, she started working as an independent journalist and researcher for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), producing about 30 documentary films. From 2006 to 2017, as a journalist and head of the Japanese section of swissinfo.ch, the international multimedia website of the SRG/SSR (Swiss Broadcasting Corporation), she wrote numerous articles on political issues and in particular, she specialized in reporting on various art exhibitions in Swiss museums, on the Locarno Film Festival and on the Prix de Lausanne (a ballet competition for young dancers). In 2019, as co-director of the NHK production team, she made a documentary film about the Prix de Lausanne. In the same year, she wrote an essay on the artist Teruko Yokoi for the exhibition catalog of the Kunstmuseum Bern. In December 2020, she made a documentary film about this artist, titled «Teruko Yokoi – Art in the Making».
里信邦子スピリグ：美術史家、映像作家、ジャーナリストとして活躍中。スイス・ジュネーブ在住。
山口県下関市に生まれる。神戸大学文学部芸術学科修士課程修了。１９８４年、滋賀県立近代美術館のフリーランス学芸員として「環境と彫刻、現代彫刻国際シンポジウム１９８４・びわこ現代彫刻展」の展覧会開催とカタログ編集を担当。カタログに彫刻家アリス・アイコックとデイビット・ナッシュについての解説・エッセイ執筆。その後フランスに留学。１９９２年、パリ・ソルボンヌ大学美術史学科博士課程修了。博士論文は「円形、三角形、四角形、ソニア・ドローネーの抽象絵画における基本形と創作プロセスの分析」。１９９２年、ベルン美術館のカップルの芸術家シリーズの一つ「ロベール&ソニア・ドローネー」展でソニア・ドローネーについて担当。カタログに解説・エッセイを執筆。博士論文執筆中に、フリーランスのリサーチャーとしてNHKの歴史番組を中心とした約３０本のドキュメンタリー制作に関わる。２００６〜２０１７年、スイス公共放送SRG/SSRの国際マルチメディア・スイスインフォの日本語セクションで編集部長・記者として働く。政治・社会問題などを記事にする一方で、スイスの美術館で開催される展覧会、ロカルノ国際映画祭、ローザンヌ国際バレエコンクールの記事を専門に長年執筆。２０１９年、NHKの共同監督としてローザンヌ国際バレエコンクールについてのドキュメンタリー「ローザンヌでつかんだ未来 – バレエダンサー須弥奈と美桜 –」を制作。２０２０年、ベルン美術館で開催された横井照子の回顧展に解説・エッセイを執筆。この時に出会った横井に魅了されドキュメンタリー映画制作を決心。監督・プロデューサーとして「Teruko Yokoi – Art in the Making『画家・横井照子の表現世界』」を２０２４に完成した。
